During summer, the city comes alive, while off-season it keeps a calm and pleasant rhythm.

What to see and do in Sarandë

Lekursi Castle: Located on a hill, it offers panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, the city, and on clear days, Corfu island. It is one of the best sunset spots.
Ferry to Corfu: From Sarandë’s port you can take a fast ferry to Corfu and explore the Greek island in a day — a very popular excursion.
Monastery of the 40 Saints: A historical site with remnants of Byzantine architecture and open sea views. Its peaceful surroundings contrast with the lively coast.
Ksamil Beaches: Just a few kilometers from Sarandë, these beaches with light sand and turquoise waters are among the most famous in Albania. The nearby small islands can be reached by boat.

What to eat in Sarandë

Local cuisine is strongly influenced by the sea and Mediterranean traditions.

Fresh fish and seafood: Daily catch, squid, octopus, and mussels, usually prepared simply with olive oil and lemon.
Byrek: Pastry filled with cheese, spinach, or meat. Very popular and easy to find in bakeries and small shops.
Mediterranean salads: Tomato, cucumber, olives, and white cheese. Fresh and abundant, perfect for summer.
Qofte: Well-seasoned meatballs, usually served with bread and salad.
Baklava and Balkan sweets: Sweet desserts of Ottoman heritage, widely available in cafés and bakeries.

Tavë kosi. It is Albania’s national dish. A baked casserole, very comforting, made mainly with lamb and yogurt.
